Remembrance
Just looking at his photograph, The fresh and handsome features, bright light of youth as yet undimmed, in sepia tones now captured.
That very night, his mother saw him. That very night, he called her name and then she knew, the price was paid ...her son for 'King and Country'.
'I am directed to transmit to you the accompanying Victory Medal with His Majesty's high appreciation ...of services now rendered'.
The edge, serrated, there remains To prove…'Receipt returned', when all she wanted was her son, her fresh faced bonny bairn.
Clouds of petals now descending, drops of blood and one is his. Emblem of a life unlived, yet still loved ...still remembered.
